The ‘place to be’ and the surrounding neighbourhoods
This Bruksel exploration looks at the interaction between the Tour & Taxis site and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
The disappearance of rail freight transport to Tour & Taxis was followed by a long period of vacancy and decay. Around the year 2000, the huge site came into private hands. The historically valuable buildings have been superbly restored and put to new use. In addition, contemporary counterparts are appearing, such as the Brussels Environment building nicknamed the ‘Toaster’, the Herman Teirlinck Building and new apartment towers.
The park to the rear has become a pleasant meeting place, with the Parckfarm glasshouse, allotments and a bread oven. It forms an important link in the green corridor between the Canal, Laeken and Molenbeek.

During this tour we can visit the Royal Depot, the Maritime Goods Station or the public areas of the Herman Teirlinck Building.
