During our Cureghem walk, a visit to the site of the old slaughterhouses is a must. There’s the bustling market on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the Abattoir also has a reputation as a centre for urban farming and sustainable energy production.
The non-profit Cultureghem vzw organises social and cultural activities such as a daily healthy lunch (www.cultureghem.be).
These innovative urban farms offer tours of their own: ECLO (a mushroom farm in the cellars under the old market hall) and BIGH (a glasshouse with a vegetable and fish farm on the roof of the Foodmet).
